Two teens convicted of killing man in 2009

A D.C. jury convicted two teens of first degree murder for a 2009 slaying of a good Samaritan who was helping a friend during an armed robbery.

The jury in D.C. Superior Court convicted Aaron Andrews, 19, and Curtis Weeks, 18, for the killing that left 20-year-old Reggie Cook dead. The teens are set to be sentenced on Sept. 9.

Authorities said Andrews and Weeks were robbing a group of people playing dice in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Eaton Road SE. Andrews shot a man in the stomach, authorities said. At that point, Cook went to help his friend by grabbing the gun from Andrews. The two men struggled and Weeks shot Cook in the chin, killing him.

Cook died on his mother's birthday.
