Two men attacked a woman near Dupont Circle early Sunday morning in a very busy section of the District, police say.
Well known for its shops, restaurants, and bars, Dupont Circle is now at the center of a sex crime investigation after a 25-year-old woman reported to police she was grabbed and raped behind a building along Connecticut Avenue.
"I don't care how safe anybody thinks an area is, there are criminals everywhere," says Holly Williams, a resident.
According to the police report it happened behind the building at 1300 Connecticut Ave. at the corner of N St. NW.
The woman said two men pushed her to the ground and raped her. The crime reportedly happened between 130 and 8 oclock in the morning Sunday.
There are several popular bars in the immediate area that are open in the early morning hours and a restaurant on the same block that stays open until 5 a.m.
The case has women who work live and visit one of the city's most well known neighborhoods on edge.
