Two people were found murdered inside a Laurel apartment home Thursday morning, authorities say.

Tina Towler, 45, and her boyfriend, James Ferguson, were found dead{ }inside the apartment they shared at 9600 Muirkirk Road.{ }As word spread, family rushed to the scene. They struggled to understand why anyone would kill the ones they loved.

“My brother would look out for anyone as far I know and [he was] very respectful,” says Paul Young. “He’s going to be truly ,gratefully missed.”{ }

Towler and Ferguson were discovered by a caregiver coming to the house to tend to Towler's severely disabled 24-year-old daughter. She was found unharmed, but taken to a hospital for observation. She has not been able to communicate what she may have witnessed.{ }

"I mean, she can't even talk," says Lee Stevenson.{ }

Police say it is clear this was not a murder-suicide because there were multiple signs of trauma to both victims.

Neighbors say they heard an argument in the apartment around 5 a.m. Police have visited the home before, twice in February when Towler was reported missing, and more recently for a 911 hang-up call.{ }

Neighbors say they saw warning signs that all was not well in the apartment.{ }

“There were a lot of people coming in and out of this household. Drunk a lot. Still a good dude,” says Charles Collins.

It is not known what led to the murders. Police first arrived at the scene in response to a welfare call.
