ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A federal judge in Virginia says the FBI must start retraining this spring an Army veteran who won a discrimination lawsuit against the bureau.

Justin Slaby, who lost his left hand in a training accident, argued that the FBI wrongly kicked him out of its academy in 2011 because of his prosthetic hand. The FBI contended Slaby was unqualified in part because he couldn't accurately fire a gun with his left hand, his non-dominant hand.

A jury agreed with Slaby in August and awarded him $75,000 for mental anguish.

The Washington Post says U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga issued an order Friday requiring the FBI to start training Slaby on his own by April 1, or by June 1 if the bureau can assemble a class of other trainees.
