Three young people dead in Bealeton car crash

Mourners hold a vigil for the victims.

Three young people died in a car crash on Bealeton Road in Virginia Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:26 p.m. on Bealeton Road, about 1.5 miles north of Schoolhouse Road.

Police say all five were traveling in a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria southbound on Bealeton Road when the car struck a tree. No other vehicles were involved.

Virginia State Police have identified 20-year-old Ausha M. Sterlitz of Bealeton as the driver. Both Sterlitz and 20-year-old front passenger Calyssa Leigh Wickman died in the crash.

Michael Dominic Montessi, 16, of Midland, Va, was a rear passenger along with the other male passengers and is also reported dead.

“I still feel like he's here,” said Brandi Rose, a friend. “I can't believe he's gone.”

Police say 18-year-old Devin Alexander Sterlitz of Bealeton and a 17-year-old teenager were flown to an area hospital.

All five in the car are current or recent graduates of Liberty High School.

Police say no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators believe speed was factor. They cannot say if alcohol was involved.

Friends gathered at the scene Tuesday night, where a small vigil was held.

The crash is being investigated by the Virginia State Police. The Fauquier County Sheriff Department and Fauquier County Fire and Rescue also responded.
