CLIFTON, Va. (WJLA) - An elderly man remains in the hospital after suffering serious burns to most of his body from a blaze that broke out at his Clifton home in Fairfax County Wednesday.
According to the Fairfax County Fire Department, it all happened around 4:30 a.m.
There were three people inside. Two managed to escape the flames, and suffered only minor burns to their feet. The elderly man was trapped inside the home until responders were able to carry him out.
"Firefighters entered the building and found an elderly gentleman on the first floor," said Kerwin McNamara, of the Fairfax County Fire Department. "They were able to remove him from the building and started EMS care with him."
That elderly man suffered second and third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body.
Fire marshalls are currently investigating where the fire started and what may have caused it.
