FAIRFAX (WTOP) -- Police kept a heavier presence than usual around the Fairfax County Courthouse Friday morning after a threat against the courthouse was received.

The threat was phoned in at 9:40 a.m., prompting the Fairfax County Police Department to put armed officers at the courthouse entrances and on patrol in the surrounding area.

Police said they swept the buildings and deployed a helicopter for an aerial search. The heavy police presence slowed morning traffic through downtown Fairfax.

The all-clear was given around 11 a.m. and the courthouse and public safety complex returned to normal.
