Thomas W. Gore, Ex-campaign aide to DC mayor, seeks probation

WASHINGTON (AP) - A former campaign aide to District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray is asking to be sentenced to probation and community service.

Thomas W. Gore is scheduled to be sentenced next month for campaign finance violations and destroying evidence.

Prosecutors have asked for a 6-month sentence, but Gore's lawyer on Friday requested two years of probation with 300 hours of community service.

Attorney Frederick Cooke says his client has accepted responsibility for his actions, feels ashamed and embarrassed and doesn't present a risk to society.

Gore pleaded guilty last year to helping illegally funnel money to a minor candidate in the 2010 mayoral election.

After media reports of the payments surfaced, he shredded a spiral notebook that contained evidence of the arrangement.

Prosecutors say their investigation into the campaign continues.
