Elijah Nathaniel Rivera struck and killed by Amtrak train in Culpeper

A teenager was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Culpeper Thursday morning. It happened at 8 a.m.near Fairfax Street.

The passenger train had just left the Culpeper depot when the crew saw three men on the tracks. The train sounded its horn and began to brake. Two of the men left the tracks, but police say a 19-year old ignored the horn and continued to sit on the tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The victim is identified as{ }Elijah Nathaniel Rivera.

The Amtrak Crescent Train #20 was headed to New York and was carrying 266 passengers.
