Teen drowns after being caught in rip current at Ocean City beach
OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJLA) -- A 17-year-old boy died Friday afternoon when he was caught in a rip current and submerged underwater, authorities said.
The Ocean City Beach Patrol said it responded about 2 p.m. to the report of a submerged swimmer in the area of 92nd Street and the beach.
The water rescue effort included approximately 30 rescue swimmers from multiple police and fire agencies, as well as the Coast Guard.
A plane from a nearby airshow was also utilized to search from the sky for the boy.
The victim, whose name was not being released at this time by authorities, was eventually located and pulled from the ocean.
Paramedics transported him to Atlantic General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
