A Takoma Park family has been enduring a rash of crank calls after posting a flier for their missing three-year-old Beagle mix.
Beth Edinger says Sassafras slipped away from her dog walker while in Adams Morgan on April 8. Edinger and her husband, along with the help of friends, posted 2,000 fliers throughout the District and Takoma Park.
They immediately began receiving calls from people saying they saw their dog being beaten. One person said he had fried and eaten their dog. Some even reported false sightings with specific addresses.
"While in the rational part of your brain you know this is a crank--that this isn't true ... you still have a fear that my poor puppy who is out on the street will actually meet somebody like this," Edinger said.
Callers have even given specific addresses where the dog is reportedly staying. Edinger has gone to the locations only to learn it was a hoax.
The family is saddened by their dog's disappearance and say these cruel calls have made their situation even more unbearable. They are hopeful that the dog will be found and that the nasty calls will stop.
