Police said several elderly victims in Montgomery County have become victims of credit card thefts.
On Sept. 9, an 89-year-old man had his wallet stolen while he was in a medical office building in the 18100 block of Prince Philip Drive in Olney. On Oct. 20, suspects stole a wallet from an 87-year-old woman's purse while she was shopping at a Giant grocery store in the 3800 block of International Drive in Silver Spring.
In the latest incident, police said the suspects distracted the elderly woman by asking for help finding a contact lens.
"That raises the alarm for me," said Mike Sweeney. "What is an elderly person going to do? They are the most vulnerable."
Police said the suspects tried to buy Target gift cards with the stolen credit cards from both victims.
Police said the suspects are black males, 40-55 years of age, 6'0"-6'3", and weighing 200-250 pounds with balding or close cut hair and little or no facial hair.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to contact the 4th District Station at 240-773-5500.
Police advice shoppers to avoid carrying their wallets in the back pocket of pants and to avoid carrying large sums of money, several credit cards, or several forms of ID in a wallet.
Residents are also advised to carry a wallet in a purse that's difficult to open and not leave that purse unattended on a store counter or grocery cart.
