Sulaimon Brown says Mayor Vincent Gray should resign
WASHINGTON (AP) - Former District of Columbia mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown says Mayor Vincent Gray should resign following a guilty plea by one of Gray's campaign aides.
It was Brown's allegations that led to the federal charges against Thomas Gore, who admitted Tuesday that he secretly funneled Gray campaign funds to Brown during the 2010 race. Brown was paid to stay in the race and make negative comments about then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Gray has denied any knowledge of the payments.
Brown went public with his allegations after he was hired to a government job, then fired shortly thereafter.
Brown said in a statement emailed to reporters Wednesday that he wasn't seeking vindication from the federal investigation because "truth need not be vindicated." He says Gray should resign immediately for violating the public trust.
