A 2-year-old girl remains in critical condition Friday afternoon after she was pulled from burning DIstrict Heights home.

The girl, a 9-year-old boy and three adults were inside a house in 6100 block of Hil-Mar Drive when it caught fire just after 1:45 a.m. The boy has been treated and released from an area hospital, authorities say.

Authorities say the three adults and the boy were able to escape, but that they were unable to rescue the 2-year-old from a second-floor bedroom.

Firefighters used ladders to remove the girl from the home, and CPR was administered to her before she was taken to a hospital.

A working smoke alarm alerted one of the residents to the fire who was able to alert some of the other occupants.

The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of arrival and appears to have started in the kitchen area; however, the official cause of the fire is under investigation, the Prince George's County Fire Department said.
