A small explosion Wednesday near a restaurant in St Mary's County didn't cause any injuries, but it left thousands of dollars worth of damage.
St. Mary's County Sheriff's officials say that the improvised explosive device went off behind a restaurant on Three Notch Road near Chancellors Run Road in California, Md. just after 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The restaurant, Nicolletti's, sustained about $5,000 worth of damage in the explosion, authorities say. Officials say that witnesses saw a car speed away after the incident.
The explosion remains under investigation.
