(WJLA) - A Snowy Owl captured at BWI has been safely relocated, far away from the airport.
The owl was spotted near a runway on December 29 and was captured later that day by wildlife officials. The animal was relocated the next day.
Snowy Owls are large birds and the Federal Aviation Administration says they can cause serious damage if hit by an aircraft.
The number of Snowy Owls is increasing in Maryland and throughout the eastern U.S., according to wildlife officials.
