SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) -- Police are searching for a young man who sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl in Silver Spring.

Police say the suspect, who is about 16-years-old, came up to the victim while she was waiting in line at an ice cream truck in the 2800 block of Schubert Drive on July 9 at about 5 p.m.

The victim was with a teenage relative. The victim’s parents were at the neighborhood pool just a few yards away.

The suspect has a dimple on his chin and was wearing a small diamond earring in his left ear above the lobe.

People who live in the area say in the evenings, the playground at the Tanglewood Park is full with young children playing and most every evening an ice cream truck pulls up and the children run to by treats.

People who live in the area are understandably upset.

“Sometimes I see many kids out here in this area and I say there's nobody watching them,” says Pedro Roa. “The parents they need to pay attention.”
