Silver Line could take major step forward Thursday

TYSONS CORNER, Va. (WJLA) - Officials from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the agency responsible for construction of the Silver Line, could announce today that the first phase of the new Metro line has reached substantial completion.

Once MWAA approves the contractor's work, Metro can take control of the Silver Line's first phase and begin testing. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has said that its testing on the Silver Line could take 60-90 days, after which the line would be open to the public.

The contractor working on the Silver Line initially announced substantial completion in February but upon inspection, MWAA found multiple issues including water leaks and problems with escalators, elevators and communication systems.
