Severe thunderstorms hit D.C. area. (ABC7)

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the D.C. area Friday evening, leaving downed trees and a brief fire at a house hit by lightning.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue units arriving at a home in the 9600 block of Ceralene Ct. reported fire showing after the lightning hit. The fire was quickly put out.

The heavy storms and wind in Northern Fauquier County left downed trees in many locations, officials reported.

The area around Old Tavern Rd. and Mount Eccentric Rd. was reportedly closed due to high water.

  • Carters Run & Winchester Rd
  • James Madison & Merry Oaks Rd
  • Blantyre Rd & John Marshall Hwy.
