Sources confirm that a body recovered from the Potomac River Thursday is that of a 23-year-old man who went missing while swimming Monday.{ }

Authorities say the man briefly surfaced a short way downstream, but then went back under and didn't come back up.

Rescuers from Fairfax County, Montgomery County and the U.S. Park Police scoured the deceptively dangerous waters for days since the man disappeared.{ }Montgomery County Fire and Rescue called off their search Thursday afternoon, hours before the man's body was recovered.

The man, who has not been identified, is presumed to be the fourth drowning in the Potomac Gorge of Great Falls National Park this year.
