It’s going to be a busy week at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center at National Harbor.
It’s hosting this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee, where 281 students from eight countries will compete for this year's prestigious title.
The contestants will take part in preliminary rounds Tuesday and Wednesday.
2013 will be a year of major change for the Bee and its participants. For the first time in the event's 86 year history, competitors will be tested on their vocabulary during several rounds.
The semi-finals and the finals will be held on Thursday. The champion wins a number of prizes, including $30,000.
Scripps compiled a map of all of this year’s competitors, where you can get to know the kids better.
