Malik Wilkins arrested in Southeast carjacking
Several people were injured Thursday morning when a car chased from Prince George's County into Southeast Washington crashed.
Malik Hasaam Wilkins, 17, was taken into custody and charged as an adult for the carjacking. A second suspect, Christopher DeWayne Barnes, 20, is wanted.
Police say the two carjacked a silver Mercedes just before 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Ridge Road and Texas Avenue in Southeast. While being chased by police, they slammed into a black Cadillac and then a school bus.
Two people in the black car, a man and pregnant woman, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Two of the four people on the bus, a teenager and an adult, had non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses say at least eight police cars were chasing the carjackers in the Benz. Lydell Mann, a certified EMT, was almost hit.
“Cadillac came around the bus and almost hit me,” Mann says. “I threw the car into reverse.”
The suspects threw two guns out of the car and fled the scene on foot. Police on the scene say that as they ran, they attempted to carjack the black vehicle involved in the crash.
A cash reward is offered for Barnes' arrest.
