(WJLA) - Thanks to the Fairfax County Police Department, Santa and Mrs. Claus paid a special visit to pediatric cancer patients at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on Thursday.
For more than 25 years, the department has organized this event, collecting thousands of gifts and toys for local pediatric cancer patients.
Fairfax County Police Officer David Pierce said, “We take all of those toys and sort them. We take them to Fairfax Hospital, the Child Cancer Center there. And then we bring them to Georgetown… So it's a great thing to be able to put a smile on their face.”
Many of the children at the Lombardi Cancer Center have experienced months of intense treatment and testing. A few might need to stay in the hospital over the holiday season. But parents said the visit from Santa gave them a nice break.
