Sandy 2012: Tidal flooding new threat in Old Town

Halloween night proved a surreal scene in Alexandria's Beverly Hills neighborhood as trick-or-treaters walked past fallen trees and workers fixing power lines.

In Georgetown, the flood walls remained up Wednesday night. There was a little flooding but fears of more lingered.

Workers in Alexandria spent the night putting things back after taking them to higher ground before Tuesday's flooding. Even as things seemed to return to normal, people were keeping their eyes on the Potomac.

"With it being Halloween, you want to see the sights and all the kids, but you do have to watch out for your vehicle. It will flood quickly," Jason Altchek of Alexandria said.

Many say even though our area has dealt with a lot from Sandy, it could have been so much worse.

Miriam Perez of Northern Virginia added, "I have a sister who lives in southern tip of Manhattan, and they got washed away, they had to be evacuated."
