(WJLA) - Samantha Shrestha was just 22 years old and a senior at Virginia Tech studying biology at the time of her tragic death. Her family is from Nepal, but she had attended James Madison High School in Northern Virginia while her family resided in this Vienna neighborhood.
Now, neighbors are trying to figure out why anyone would want her dead.
"It's just awful -- they were quiet, nice people, they always seemed gentle," said neighbor Rosario Rausa.
Shrestha was reported missing on Saturday from her dormitory on the Virginia Tech campus. Over the weekend, police put out an alert for a black 2004 Mercedes they thought might be connected to the case.
On Monday morning, police finally located the car at an undisclosed location off the university's campus. Shrestha's uncle allegedly told reporters in Blacksburg that his niece's body was inside the car, and the family was told by the medical examiner's office that there were marks around the neck consistent with strangulation or suffocation.
On Monday, police arrested senior Jessica Ewing and charged her with murder. Later, they arrested 23-year-old Keifer Kyle Brown -- a 2013 Virginia Tech graduate -- who has been charged with helping to transport and hide the body.
Police are not currently saying if the three knew one other, and have not yet released a motive for the crime.
