Salvation Army kicks off red kettle bell campaign

The Salvation Army's trademark bell ringers and red kettles are returning to a grocery store near you.

The 2012 Red Kettle Campaign kicks off at 12 p.m. Friday at the Pepco Edison Place Art Gallery in Northwest. The event is open to the public.

Beginning on November 10, more than 250 kettles will be deployed throughout the Greater Washington area. These Salvation Army kettles accept cash, checks and even gold coins.

Major Lewis Reckline, commander for The Salvation Army in the National Capital Area, spoke with NewsChannel 8 Friday morning about the effort.
