(WJLA) - When police first entered the one-room basement apartment in Prince George's County that served as a teenage girl's dungeon where she says she was held as a sex slave by Saleh Jamar Pointer, they discovered that the brothel conditions were squalid.
"There were so many mosquitos in there we had to work in shifts," said PGPD Vice Sgt. Dave Coleman. However, he says that for the 16-year-old girl, whose identity we are protecting, bugs were the least of their concerns.
"She was being held in there. She was being fed crack and exchanging sex for money with whomever her pimp could find."
The girl told police that she couldn't count the number of men she had to be with, but she knew that Pointer collected $2,000 per day. He is now behind bars and charged with human trafficking.
Neighbor Steven Franco says he saw Pointer and many men coming and going from the tiny apartment, and he knew something was wrong. The girl looked to be in bad shape, he said, and now police say that because of their intervention, she may finally have a future:
"We saw her this morning -- she looks a lot better. She's in school, she's in a program where she seems now happy to stay," said Sgt. Coleman.
