SafeTrack Surge #15 was underway Tuesday morning with a big impact to Prince George’s County.

The Orange and Silver Lines will be shut down from New Carrollton to Stadium Armory until June 15, shutting down the New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue Stations.

However, free shuttle buses are being provided to help the operation run a little more smoothly.

Crew are rebuilding more than 12 miles of track, 10,000 cross ties, about 1,000 fasteners under Surge #15. Metro predicts that 78,000 trips per day will be affected during this work period.

Coming from Virginia, Orange Line trains will operate every six to eight minutes between Vienna and Largo Town Center during rush hour. Silver Line trains, between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium Armory, will see trains every 12 minutes.

In addition, Metro is also encouraging Marc and Amtrak customers who normally connect at the New Carrollton station to instead connect at Union Station.
