(WJLA) - Fairfax County School Board Member Ryan McElveen has promised to make an appearance at a local high school prom after a student asked him to go to prom on Twitter.
McElveen, who is a popular figure on Twitter with Fairfax County students, originally publicly agreed to attend the James Madison High School prom with a 17-year-old student, but has since decided to back off of those plans. After speaking with FCPS administrators and the student, McElveen said he doesn't want his presence to "distract" from the students' time spent at prom, the Washington Post reports.
The student told the Post that she did not invite McElveen to attend prom with her specifically, but to attend the event and spend time with students similar to the invitations that are extended to celebrities.
