Route 1 bus lanes would ease congestion
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WJLA) - The lanes run right down Route 1, the connection between the Braddock Road Metro station and Crystal City. It's 4.5 miles of new roadway, the first of its kind in the area, dedicated exclusively for buses.
"It provides a quality transportation transit experience for people who are traveling in this corridor and it means less people on the road," Arlington County Transportation Director Dennis Leach said.
The project will cost $20 million and add seven new transit stops along its route, all designed to ease congestion in the area. The Arlington County board will consider funding for the project at its meeting Saturday. If approved construction could begin this spring and would take 10 months.
