ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Delegate Ron George says he plans to run for governor.
George, an Anne Arundel County Republican, said Monday he plans to formally announce his bid on June 5 in Annapolis.
George is serving his second term in the Maryland House of Delegates. He began his first term in 2007.
George, who is a 59-year-old small-business owner, says he wants to build a better Maryland with true economic growth. The jewelry store owner says Maryland relies too much on federal money. He says the state needs to increase its tax base, and that Maryland can't just continue raising taxes.
George says he wants to emphasize economic development in the state, particularly in Baltimore. He also says he wants to focus on being economically competitive with neighboring Virginia.
