ARLINGTON, Va. (AP/WJLA) - An item detonated by a bomb squad in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Arlington likely wasn't explosive, authorities say.

Authorities discovered what they initially believed could have been a pipe bomb in the backseat of a car during a traffic stop on South Highland Street on Sunday afternoon. The man, who was driving a car with New York tags, was taken into custody for questioning.

In an attempt to render the item safe, a bomb squad was called in. They subsequently detonated the item in question.

However, officials told Arlington Patch that it was deemed to not be a threat. The 63-year-old man in question received a summons for marijuana possession.
