Robert Jarrett sentenced to 30 years behind bars

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A man convicted of killing his wife in 1991 and burying her body in the back yard has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Fifty-nine-year-old Robert Jarrett Jr. of Elkridge was sentenced Thursday in Howard County Circuit Court. He had been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Christine Jarrett.

Christine Jarrett's body was found buried under the floorboards of a backyard shed in April 2012. Robert Jarrett had reported her missing in 1991, saying she had walked away from her home after an argument.

A break came in the case when Robert Jarrett's second wife gave police permission to search the property in 2012.
