SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) - A Montgomery County Ride On bus struck a female pedestrian early Tuesday morning, sending her to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 34-year-old victim was hit just outside Kennedy High School, near the intersection of Randolph Road and Middlevale Road. Montgomery County police responded to an emergency call for the incident just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.

As of late morning, authorities said the victim remained in critical condition.

The driver of the bus, a 59-year-old man, was reportedly just beginning his shift when the accident occurred. Authorities told ABC7 that traffic signals in the area were blinking red and yellow at the time of the incident.

Police said the crash is being ivnestigated, and that authorities will be looking into possible surveillance video of the crash, as well as the bus' "black box," which could give them details on the speed of the bus, when the driver hit the brakes and more.

Police said the driver was cooperating with the investigation. In the meantime, the bus is being impounded.
