NEW YORK (AP/WJLA) - The man credited with helping turn things around for the Redskins is also helping local stores' bottom line.
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III ranks second in the NFL in passer rating. He's right at the top of conversation about rookie of the year. And his jersey is popular as can be.
"Not really surprised, no. I think he's very, very popular. Great football player," says Joleen Joson.
The Sports Authority in Alexandria was running very low on the jerseys until they got a huge shipment Tuesday morning.
The $20 elite socks are gone. Now Nike is manufacturing the apparel.
"We have not been able to keep the smaller sizes, the smalls, the mediums in stock," says Eric Pamperin.
"I'm asking for one, but my brother, I know, is getting one," says Emily Fleisher.
RG3's No. 10 Redskins shirt is also the top seller on NFLShop.com this season, the website says. The top six spots belong to QBs, with Peyton Manning of the Broncos at No. 2, followed by Aaron Rodgers of the Packers, Eli Manning of the Giants, Tom Brady of the Patriots and Andrew Luck of the Colts.
According to ESPN.com, an NFL spokesperson says Griffin's jersey already has sold more than any other player's has in a single season since the league began tracking sales on NFLShop.com six years ago.
