On the bare corner of a rural Maugansville neighborhood, a 200-year-old home stands unfit for human habitation after winds tore off the roof and busting the windows before throwing it back down. Across the street, a jungle gym lies tossed aside. A block away is a shed that's collapsed.
It was all because of a tornado in Maugansville Tuesday night at about 8 p.m. Maugansville is about 80 miles from the District.
"I've never seen anything like this before," said Capt. Thomas Garrett, Maugansville Fire and Rescue.
The National Weather Service says that the tornado packed wind speeds of 90-100 miles per hour.
Residents said it all happened in just minutes. Unfortunately for Carol Haupt, part of that "all" included her beloved trailer.
"It's just like my second home," she said.
