Redskins merchandise flying off shelves

Just as soon as the game clock ran out at FedEx Field, area sports stores began unpacking their shipments of brand new NFC East Champion merchandise.

Modell's in Bethesda has T-shirts, hats and even pennants. Before the store opened Monday morning, officials say they had received several calls from eager Redskins fans who want to get their hands on one of the items.

Since the team has been on its seven-game winning streak, burgundy and gold apparel has been flying off store shelves.

The Redskins are division champions for the first time since 1999, beating the Dallas Cowboys 28-18 Sunday in a winner-take-all end to the NFL's regular season. Washington (10-6) has won seven straight games and will host the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday.

“It’s great that the Redskins are back in the playoffs and bringing back excitement,” says William Johnson. “[I’ve] got something to cheer about now.”

“It’s just awesome. I think RG3 is just leading the team. There’s just excitement that hasn’t been here before. We finally have a quarterback that can lead the team," says Vera Theresa.

Fans in and around Washington have had no problem showing their pride - and shelling out money to do so.

In Lanham, T-shirts are coming right off the presses. New “Beasts of the East” shirts went into printing early Monday morning.

The artwork was finished on Saturday before the game was over. But after last night's sweet victory, employees quickly went to work to get shirts printed and shipped.
