CALVERT 9: Recovering drug addicts in Maryland tell their sobering story
CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (ABC7) —
Nine recovering drug addicts in Calvert County share their story as they make their way back from hell.
In a raw and sobering testimony, the nine survivors, eight of them parents, sat down with ABC7’s John Gonzalez.
According to new reports, there were over 42,000 U.S. drug fatalities in 2016 alone and 66 percent involved opioids. That's over a thousand more than the number of Americans who died from breast cancer each year.
The fight against the epidemic in Maryland has become more dire than ever. There were 1,259 overdose deaths in 2015 and that number has doubled since 2010.
