Wintry mix drops significant snow but mostly spares D.C. area
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The snow is ending from a storm that triggered traffic problems and school closings across western Maryland.
The National Weather Service says 8 inches of snow fell near Frostburg Monday. Accumulations elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic region range from a trace in Montgomery County to nearly 7 inches in northern Carroll County.
The weather service says it has cancelled a winter storm warning for northern Delaware, where nearly an inch of snow fell.
Frostburg State University is closed due to snow, along with public schools from Carroll County west to Garrett County.
Another storm is forecast to arrive late Tuesday, with freezing rain possible in Baltimore and Washington. Forecasters say the same storm could bring 6 inches of snow and a quarter-inch of ice to far western Maryland.
