PURCELLVILLE, Va. (WJLA) – Loudoun Valley High School students will return to school Tuesday following the holiday weekend without one of their classmates.
Christian Sierra, 17, was fatally shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting over the weekend. Virginia State Police received a call about a teenager threatening suicide around 2 p.m. Saturday. A Purcellville Police Department officer responded and approached Sierra, who reportedly lunged at the officer with a knife. The officer shot Sierra an undetermined amount of times. Sierra was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Sierra, a junior at Loudoun Valley, recently experienced a mood change in the last month, according to friends.
Students plan to wear tie-dye to school Tuesday to honor Sierra. School officials said grief counselors will be on hand to help any students having a difficult time coping with the loss.
