The multi-billion development project kicked off with a grand ceremony at 11 a.m. that you can watch here:

As part of the grand opening, an evening sold out performance by the Foo Fighters was set to take place at the brand new music venue The Anthem.

A daytime firework show also filled the sky with color during the grand ceremony.

As part of the development, there are new restaurants, a new theater and even some shopping – but this is only the first phase, so work is still in progress.

In addition, Mayor Bowser announced that Exelon paid for Metro to extend late-night service an hour for the grand opening and the Nationals Game against the Chicago Cubs.

The grand opening will run through Sunday evening and as events continue, DC police warn the public that the following areas will be congested. For more, visit their website.
