Prince William officials to discuss cemetery plan
MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Prince William County school officials are considering how to re-inter remains and artifacts from a cemetery discovered at the site of a high school under construction.
The Washington Post reports school officials will report archaeological findings about the site during a meeting Monday evening. Community members are invited to speak and ask questions. The meeting will be held at the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center in Manassas at 7 p.m.
The cemetery dates back about 150 years. School officials announced plans to move the cemetery in September and said at the time that the cemetery had been discovered in July.
Last month, an official revealed evidence of the cemetery was actually found in 2008 by contractors surveying the site. But they did not tell the school system until July.
