Police in Prince William County are trying to determine if an attempted burglary and attempted rape in the same Woodbridge neighborhood on Thursday morning are related.

Both incidents took place in the 1800 block of Gableridge Turn in the Summerland Heights apartment complex.

The first incident took place just before 1 a.m., when a couple reported that a person had broken into their living room, apparently through an unlocked window. Once noticed, the unknown man fled out a window. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured.

The suspect in this case is described as a 6'0", 250-pound black male wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans and a black cap.

About six hours later, police responded to the same neighborhood after a 38-year-old woman woke up to a man in her bedroom, holding a knife and demanding she undress. The suspect inappropriately touched the victim before fleeing. Again, it appears the suspect entered through an unlocked window.

The suspect in the second incident is also described as a black male, 5'8" and 180 pounds, possibly with a mustache. He was last seen wearing a tan ski mask, black jacked, dark pants and construction-style gloves.

One woman says someone has tried to get into her apartment at least twice in the past month, including Wednesday night.

“The fact that someone would be daring enough to come into the house or try to certainly sets of a panic button with me,” the woman said.
