Prince George's firefighters make high-angle rescue after car runs off Beltway
Prince George’s County firefighters performed a high-angle rescue and extrication of a person trapped in a car that veered off the Capital Beltway early Saturday morning near Kenilworth Avenue in Greenbelt.
The car left the roadway shortly before 4 a.m., went down a steep embankment, and overturned in a drainage culvert about 25 feet below grade, officials say.
Firefighters from the heavy-duty rescue squad from Berwyn Heights lifted the lone occupant of the car on a stokes basket hoisted by ropes and pulleys.
The patient was taken to a trauma center with non-life threatening injuries.
Maryland State Police are investigating.
