BLADENSBURG, Md. (AP/WJLA) - Prince George's County police say an officer shot and wounded a man wielding a knife in the Bladensburg area.
Police were responding to a domestic dispute in the 5400 block of Annapolis Road just after midnight Monday when a man unrelated to the incident approached officers wielding a knife with a 10 to 12-inch blade.
Officers asked the man, who was acting erratically, to put the knife down. Police say officers corralled the man briefly and shocked him with a stun gun. Then police say the officer "was forced to fire" his service weapon. The officer fired an undisclosed amount of times.
Authorities say 22-year-old Ivanilov Fomukong of Bladensburg was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is charged with assault.
The officer was not injured.
Officials confirm the officer was put on administrative leave following the shooting per standard procedure.
