Prince George's County increasing security measures at schools

When students return to school in Prince George's County on Aug. 19, some will enter their campuses to find increased security measures.

The Gazette reports that the county is spending $7.5 million to install electronic entry systems, security cameras and panic buttons across its 205 public schools.

Implementation at some schools will take longer than others, security officials tell the Gazette, but the work will be "well underway" once the first bell rings in just more than a week.

All of the new equipment should be installed by the end of the 2013-14 school year, officials say.
