(WJLA) - Fire officials in Prince George's County are warning residents that scammers are trying to defraud people out of money for fake fire inspections.

Officials say that flyers have been posted to doors in several parts of the county instructing residents to pay $25 for an inspection. The flyer is titled "Fire Prevention Office" and gives a Landover Hills address where people should send their payment.

That Landover Hills address is listed as the headquarters for the Prince George's County Fire Commission.

Prince George's County Fire officials say that the flyers are not coming from their department and no money should be sent. Instead, authorities want people who either get a flyer or see someone distributing them to call the fire department at 301-583-2200.

Authorities are working to determine who is behind the scam.
