      Power restored on National Mall

UPDATE (10:50 a.m.): Power has been restored to the affected areas, PEPCO says.

ORIGINAL STORY: Another power outage in the District on Friday morning could impact traffic on the western end of the National Mall.

Officials say that the outage, most likely caused by a malfunctioning cable near the Lincoln Memorial, has caused traffic signals in the area to go on flash.

PEPCO is on site making repairs. Park Police officers are at those intersections directing traffic.

Power went out on the Mall on Thursday night when construction crews cut an underground cable near 22nd Street and Constitution Avenue NW.

Crews restored power temporarily but warned that it may have to be shut off again to make a more permanent fix. PEPCO spokesman Bob Haney says that while crews are on the scene making repairs, he stressed that the outage was not caused by the power company.
