Potomac River diesel fuel spill cleanup underway
WASHINGTON (AP) - A floating platform at a fish market in southwest Washington broke apart and leaked 40 to 50 gallons of diesel fuel into the Potomac River.
Officials from the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement they were notified of the spill at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. Fire and Coast Guard officials said the platform was one where fish and other seafood would be sold, but it was under renovation at the time and no one was onboard.
The fire department was able to contain the spill, and a private environmental company has been hired to clean it up.
