Postal worker sexually assaulted in Silver Spring

A 21-year-old postal worker was sexually assaulted Thursday while she was out walking behind a post office on her lunch break in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police say the woman was assaulted at about 2:35 p.m. in the 100 block of University Boulevard.

Police say the woman was walking behind the post office when a man armed with a knife forced her into the backyard of a nearby residence and sexually assaulted her. He then fled from the area.

The mother of the victim, whose identity is being concealed , described her horror at finding out her 21-year old daughter had allegedly been raped on normally quiet Rogart Street.

"I was going nuts, I was screaming, I wanted to go find the guy, I wanted to take matters into my own hands," she says.

Police say they don't believe the victim knew the suspect. The victim's mother says the man was threatening her not to cry for help.

"The guy told her to pretend everything was okay and to make it look like it was normal,” The victim’s mother says. “She was scared, she didn't know what to do, the guy had a knife on her."

One of the victim's coworkers at the post office facility on University Boulevard says he drove by and saw her and the suspect.

"I didn't see anything wrong, like I say, I thought it was her boyfriend or something. It didn't occur to me what was going on," the coworker says.

The assault took place near Lilian Flores's backyard.

"It's very dangerous because I have three daughters in here," Flores says.

The suspect is described as a man with gray and black facial hair, broken teeth and standing at about 5 feet, 6 inches tall.
